My name is Lauren Smyth, and I’m a female dentist, graduating from dentistry in 2019 from Queen’s University Belfast. I’m originally from Ireland, but I’m currently based in clinics across Runcorn and the Wirral.

Becoming a dentist wasn’t something I just fell into; it was a long journey which started in my early years at secondary school. I don’t know what pointed me toward dentistry, but I have always been attracted to people’s smiles; it’s always been a feature I notice about a person right away and one thing I always remember about them. My creative background and desire to help people in whatever way I can inspired me down this career path. While changing the appearance of someone’s smile, we can also improve how they eat, talk, their confidence, and how those around them perceive them.  

While I must admit it can be a very stressful job, it allows me to constantly push myself, learn new things and meet lots of new people, gaining their trust and respect. I have recently furthered my education and taken on a diploma in aesthetic and restorative dentistry, which has helped instil the knowledge and confidence required to treat more complex cases. 

I absolutely love my job and feel so fortunate that I get to do this every day. As cliche as it sounds, I get such a thrill from seeing my clients smiling more confidently, knowing I played a part in boosting their self-esteem. Every day offers a new challenge and the potential to greatly impact someone’s quality of life. I’ll never tire of the sense of fulfilment and rewarding feeling I get from patients’ reactions to their new smiles. Some of my favourite treatments include veneers, composite bonding and Invisalign.
