Stewart reveals a harsh reality faced by families in struggling communities, where the choice between heating their homes and putting food on the table is an agonising decision. Despite working full-time jobs, those on minimum wage are still grappling with the financial burden imposed by the increasingly exorbitant cost of school uniforms. The entrepreneur argues that this harsh reality is part of a larger issue, describing it as a racketeering scheme, with suspicions that schools might be receiving kickbacks.

Expressing her concern about the unsustainable costs, Stewart has taken her grievances to Liverpool City Council, but as of the time of going to print, there has been no response. In a bid to make a tangible difference, last summer, Kate Stewart spearheaded for the second year running an initiative that helped over 400 families access free school uniforms, raising an impressive £12,000 through GoFundMe. The overwhelming response to the initiative, with people waiting for over an hour at times, underscores the urgency of addressing this issue.

Kate Stewart’s ultimate goal is to encourage councils to advocate for more realistic and affordable uniform policies within schools. She urges concerned individuals to join forces, speak up and make their voices heard. In a call to action, she advises taking concerns directly to local councils or school governors, stressing the importance of collective advocacy for change.
