Hello, my name is Elly, and I am the founder of Revenge Boxing, a female-only boxing academy. I’d like to share my journey, from where it all started to where I am today.
Growing up in a dysfunctional family, with parents who rarely communicated, I constantly yearned for their affection. I often felt ignored and overshadowed by my older brother. This challenging environment led to crippling OCD and significantly impacted my mental health, issues I carried into adulthood.
After the birth of my first daughter, I experienced severe postnatal depression and developed an eating disorder. Desperately seeking a positive outlet to regain control and empower myself, I discovered boxing at my local gym. The sense of belonging and connection I found there was transformative. For the first time, I felt truly good at something, and I didn’t want that feeling to end.
Determined to share this newfound empowerment with others, I retrained as a women’s boxing coach and fitness instructor/PT and established my own business to help other women in the way boxing had helped me.
Over the past six years, Revenge Boxing has grown from a single Saturday morning class to eight bustling classes a week, including our popular “Girls with Gloves” sessions. Our “Box n Shred” nutrition program, running every six weeks, has also been met with great success. We’ve collaborated with several charities over the years, including those supporting domestic abuse survivors and mother and baby initiatives.
Currently, our classes are held across three venues in Northwich, Cheshire. In the past 12 months, we’ve embarked on a mission to franchise the business across the UK. Our goal is to offer other women, who have faced mental health challenges or domestic abuse, the opportunity to run their own fitness businesses. With our support and guidance, they can empower themselves and other women in their communities.
