At Mary’s Place®, we’re passionate about helping newly registered nurses transition from student life to the demands of professional nursing. These incredible individuals are stepping into one of the most challenging yet rewarding careers. We understand that the first few months (or longer) can feel overwhelming.
Our founder, Julie, is a nurse, senior lecturer, executive coach, and well-being advocate. Julie’s journey to creating Mary’s Place® is deeply personal. In January 2020, her beautiful daughter, Mary-Lou, passed away at 22 years old. Mary-Lou was a bright light—a Law graduate and MA Political Theory student with a deep commitment to social justice and helping others grow. In navigating her own grief, Julie found a renewed purpose: to support others facing tough transitions and challenges. Mary’s Place® CIC was founded in Mary-Lou’s memory, carrying forward her legacy of compassion and growth.
Whether working with individuals or groups, our goal is simple: we empower professionals during their formative years. We offer funded well-being days, creating brave spaces where participants connect with peers, share experiences and leave feeling inspired, rested, and recharged.
Our work is gaining traction with organisations keen to support their early-career staff. We’re proud to collaborate with partners like Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust and Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, helping them nurture their workforce through tailored well-being initiatives.
Our online and in-person community is a source of solidarity and support for newly qualified professionals. Our Facebook group provides a safe, engaging space for nurses to connect, share, and grow together. Mary’s Place® began by supporting newly registered nurses, and in response to feedback, in 2025, we’re expanding to include the teaching community – the challenges faced are similar.
